For the last couple of days before break, students put their engineering hats on and tried their best to build a strong straw tower from a limited bag of materials. The goal was to build the tallest free-standing tower of straws that could hold an unopened can of pop for 2 minutes. The second day, students were allotted Straw Bucks to buy additional supplies to aid in making their structure a success. Many groups were able to build a structure that would support the full pop can. The winners for 5th hour were Katie J. and Jeffrey S. with a height of 30 cm. First place for 6th hour was Carter H. and Haley E., barely edging out Gabe W. and Isabelle U. with a height of 31 cm. The engineering teams did an excellent job of redesigning to improve their products!

For the last couple of days before break, students put their engineering hats on and tried their best to build a catapult from a limited bag of materials. The goal was to launch a ping pong ball 20 feet (8 meters) and knock over a stack of cups. Several groups were able to launch it around 21 feet, but failed to knock over the cups. The engineering teams did an excellent job of redesigning to improve their products. |
