Several groups wanted another chance to try out their balloons. A couple of them even started from scratch to ensure that their balloon would be a success. Today was colder than the first launch, but there was some strong winds. Many of my 6th hour groups had a better launch. Below are the first and second place balloons' flight. Congratulations to Matt, Wes, Johnny, Bobby, and Brett for achieving the longest distance for this year. The "Box" Balloon was last seen heading over Prairie Place Apartments. Where did it land? That is a good question. Congratulations also goes out to Noah, Nick, Kurt, and Jacob on their "American Flag" Balloon. It went out of the tennis court for second place.

My 7th grade students are busy learning about cell processes like diffusion, osmosis, and different forms of active transport. We have also discussed hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic solutions and how these kinds of solutions can effect a cell. What better way to understand what would happen than to perform an experiment? Today, my 8th grade students "excited" metallic salts and were able to see the different colors of light the metals emitted as the electrons moved to the ground state.
Today we launched the hot air balloons. Everyone's balloon at least went 1 meter. 5th hour students enjoyed a little bit better weather conditions than my 6th hour class. The cold front came in and increased the wind. The 5th hour and overall winners were Alaura and Kaela with a distance of 33.5 meters. 6th hours top distance was 23.5 meters and the balloon was made by the combined efforts of Matt, Wes, Johnny, Bobby, and Brett. I am hoping to take students out another day to compare the flights. Each group had to evaluate their final product and come up with ways to improve their design. Some groups chose to redesign their balloon in the hopes of having a better launch. Everyone did a great job! |
