Students worked hard the last 3 days before winter break to complete a project comparing what they had been learning about the Indian Removal to the futuristic movie Avatar. Students also researched current situations where indigenous tribes are being removed from their homes. Students used the statistical data collected from these past, present, and futuristic removals of indigenous tribes to create a Public Service Announcement to sway the "public" to not remove the indigenous tribes from their homes. For this project all of the 8th grade students were randomly put into three groups of fifty, so it was very enjoyable as a teacher to be able to interact with students I wouldn't normally teach. They did a great job and I loved to see the creativity!

All of the 7th grade students at PMS were able to travel to the Kansas City Repertory Theater to see the Christmas Carol. Students and adults alike were enthralled by the actors, special effects, and live action. After the play, we all went to Cici's Pizza to eat. Thanks so much to Ms. Dial and Mrs. Armbruster for writing the grant which allowed all of us to go, the booster club for the grant, and Mr. Bloustine for pitching in the rest of the money. It was an awesome experience! |
