New Record for the number of students to fit inside of a 8" x 5" index card goes to Jeffrey S. The past record encompassed 9 people. Jeffrey was determined and whittled away at his card until he was able to encircle 22 students. Great Job Jeffrey!

We have several class pets that are receiving a lot of love this year. Big Mama and her 4 medium sized babies are in a cage right as you walk in the door. They are Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. I feed them dog food, vegetables and fruit. The younger cockroaches are really fast, so if students wish to hold one at the end of seminar or after school Big Mama is the safest choice. Priscilla (Miss Priss) is a juvenile leopard gecko and is located in an aquarium set up as a desert environment next to my filing cabinet. Right now she is about 1/4 the size of an adult. She eats small crickets and mealworms. Bellatrix is our class rabbit. She is kind of a nervous bunny so we use a towel to hold her so she doesn't scratch anyone. She loves to run around the room after school. She lives in a "bunny mansion" that Brayden D. gave to me last year. It has two levels to the cage and she loves to go up and down in it. I feed her rabbit food, vegetables, and hay. Rainbow is a Praying Mantis. Jordan H. brought her in a couple of weeks ago to live in our classroom. We have been feeding her crickets and grasshoppers. I also put in some mealworms, but she has yet to nibble on them. She loves to spend her days hanging upside down. Jordan had her at her house for awhile, so she is helping me to take care of her. My 7th and 8th grade classes are learning about inquiry. What better way to learn than to try and figure out a problem that seems impossible! 7th grade students were challenged to get 12 nails to balance on the head of one nail and my 8th graders mission was to cut an index card to fit around their body. It was a lot of fun watching them try out different ideas to try and solve the problem. 8th grade is currently learning about proper lab safety and tools we will be using. They have been practicing how to use some of the tools and reviewing how to take measurements in a rotation lab. I was glad to see how much they remembered from what they were taught last year. Great job! Here is a great video put to the stylings of Rythym, Rhyme, and Results with their Lab Safety Rap. If you want to, you can even download it on iTunes. I love it! |
