Today the moment most of my students had been waiting for since the first day of school finally happened. In order to investigate body systems, we dissected a leopard frog. Our specimens this year held all kinds of exciting surprises! Some had enlarged hearts, stomachs full of crickets, grasshoppers, or beetles, and we even discovered some that had structures that appeared to be tumors. It was an excellent day of dissecting! 8th graders are officially out of school. Today they practiced for their promotion and had some fun! After they learned what to do for their big night, they were treated to a cookout, hung out with friends, and signed yearbooks. You will all be missed! Good luck at PHS! 8th grade students designed and created an Egg Drop as their final project for the year. They had to create a project that would protect their egg from shattering when tossed from the back of the stadium bleachers which are about 26 feet in height. Putting the concepts we have been studying in physics this year, they created a plan, a device, and predicted the outcome using scientific concepts. Alas, there were some eggs that did not survive and were scrambled on the concrete, but everyone had a lot of fun putting them to the test. My 7th grade students have been learning about the Human Body Systems. We have been investigating these systems with a number of different lab activities. During our investigation of the Nervous System we played a number of brain games. You can try some of these yourself. I have posted some of the activities below. It is so much fun! Our culminating activity involved dissecting a cow eye, which is always one of the students' favorite things to do! |
