For the past three weeks, students have been learning about pure substances, mixtures, states of matter, and phase changes. They have performed many labs to help explore these topics. This week, they are creating a children's story book or comic strip about these concepts. They are so creative and have such wonderful illustrations! I can't wait for story time! Last week, students compared and contrasted the type of soil they collected from each location at the O.W.L. site. Then, they swabbed the agar plates with the diluted soil samples. The plates were then put into our incubator for seven days. Today, students compared the colonies of bacteria that grew on their plates, drew pictures of their observations, analyzed their data, and critiqued their experiment. It was a wonderful experience, but we will all be glad to get rid of the plates. The longer the bacteria grow, the worse they smell! |
